Felonies

Felonies are separated in Alaska into classes:

Misdemeanors

Misdemeanors are separated in Alaska into classes:


Misdemeanors are classified similarly to felonies, as Class A & B.

  • Class A misdemeanors are the most serious misdemeanor offenses and carry the harshest penalties.
  • Crimes Include: assault, DV assault, theft, and disorderly conduct.
  • Time: Up to One Year

DUIs | OUIs

Driving under the influence:


Driving under the influence also has different classifications. The first offense is typically considered a misdemeanor. Subsequent DUIs or those that result in injury or death can be charged as felonies. DUIs often result in fines, license suspension, and imprisonment.

  • First & Second offense: can be up to 72 hours in jail, fines up to $1,500, and a driver's license suspension of 90 days.
  • Third offense: A third DUI offense within 10 years of two prior DUI convictions is considered a Class C felony, with up to five years in prison, fines up to $10,000, and a driver's license revocation of at least three years.
  • Fourth offense or more: A fourth DUI offense or more within 10 years of three prior DUI convictions is considered a Class B felony, with up to 10 years in prison, fines up to $25,000, and a driver's license revocation of at least five years.
