Domestic Violence Protective Orders (DVPO)

Protective Orders, Legal Services. Turnagain Law, Anchorage Alaska.

There are two types of DVPOs in Alaska:

Short-Term Domestic Violence Protective Order.

Long-Term Domestic Violence Protective Order.

In egregious circumstances where a victim of domestic violence fears for his or her lives due to threats of violence, physical and emotional abuse, and other forms of domestic violence, victims may seek a DVPO to protect them and their family from further violence from their abuser.

See Our Areas of Practice Below

Ways the DVPO Order Protects Abuse Victims

The Domestic Violence Protective Order can:

  • Prevent the abuser from having any contact with a victim.
  • Remove the abuser from the shared property, giving the victim exclusive rights to the property to lift the order.
  • Prohibit the abuser from contacting the victim's extended family.
  • Respondents violating a DVPO can be charged with a criminal offense.
  • A judge can tailor each protective order to provide case-specific protections to ensure the victim is fully protected.
